When we talk about Digital Strategy, many times the discussions also include the technology and the tools.
Let’ s make some points clear first. Digital strategy is actually focuses on “doing the right things” in digital environment which refers the “strategical” part of the thinking. But, the required technology is more about “doing the things right”; so it is the “tactical” piece of the process.

Of course, you should have tactical pieces to complement your strategies but they are not the roadblockers for designing your strategy.
If we go back to the main question for this article, “Do We Need Advanced Technology to Have a Digital Strategy ?” – the answer is becoming “no, you do not…”. You can definitely design your digital strategy and when it comes to customer journeys and content mappings, you can evaluate the technology component. Depending on the available technology, relevant digital tactics can easily be planned. Or sometimes, you may think about having more advanced technology to implement advanced digital tactics.
At the end of the day, technology is only an enabler, not a driver for creating the digital strategy.
